Hilma was a classically trained fine artist, having studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Stockholm. She studied drawing, portraiture, and landscape painting. Though she earned money this way, she actively sought to unlearn the classical techniques she had acquired, instead developing a technique called “automatic drawing” in which she drew without allowing her consciousness to lead the process. Moderna Museet Malmö is now giving its visitors an opportunity to become acquainted with the fascinating and ground-breaking Swedish artist Hilma af Klint in a comprehensive presentation.
